Information on Beside The Wave Gallery
and The John Dyer Gallery
Beside The Wave Gallery was founded by the Dyer family in 1989. The gallery was run on the strengths of the family; the paintings of Ted Dyer and John Dyer and the management by Vivien and Lelsy Dyer. The gallery also strongly exhibited the work of Richard Tuff and Joanne Short.
The gallery quickly became one of Cornwall's most successful galleries and exhibited some of the county's most celebrated artists which we have listed below.
In addition to exhibiting paintings John Dyer designed the internationally known visual identity of the gallery and all printed catalogues and books until 2005.
John Dyer and Joanne Short lived for a period of time above the gallery (as did Richard Tuff) and this had an influence on their work as the gallery has fantastic views across Falmouth harbour. The artist Fred Yates also painted from the building.
In 2007 the gallery was sold.
The contemporary colourist work of John Dyer, Ted Dyer and Joanne Short is now represented by one of Cornwall's most exciting and successful galleries, The John Dyer Gallery, and in Monaco and the Côte d'Azur by Galerie Monaco. Studio visits can also be arranged.
