"I am familiar with many of the beautiful places that John and Joanne have painted in their native Cornwall; where their work is well known. I admire them for branching out into new pastures. Their style is well suited to the Riviera and I think they have captured the lushness and exuberance of the flora around Menton very well. We are blessed with wonderful light on the Mediterranean which they have used to great effect, their pictures are guaranteed to lift ones spirits and make one smile."

Hanbury Garden

The Hanbury Gardens at Mortola in Italy cover an area of approximately 18 hectares and tumble down towards the sparkling sea. They are at their peak in early summer and are cultivated with exotic and Mediterranean plants which have survived a remarkable history. The garden was founded in 1867 by Sir Thomas Hanbury and is one of the most important botanic gardens in Europe.

Clos du Peyronnet is a much smaller garden but is one of Menton's most famous. Planted by three generations of the Waterfield family and designed to be painted this garden offers a sumptuous array of plants. It is the only garden in Menton to have remained the private property of a family which have been tending it with passion since the beginning of the century and it is a very special place.
