What are teachers & children saying?

Mark Pollard | Teacher

"Every year, your resources were used to help educate the children with not only the production of quality art in the style of the excellent John Dyer, but also with learning about different cultures, geographical knowledge and the importance on focussing on protecting our environments. Thank you for this! The children loved it; we loved it and it is greatly appreciated!"

Paint Bats and learn about the Borneo Rainforest. Live from the Eden Project's rainforest

A replay of the first live painting event with artist John Dyer from the rainforest biome at the world famous Eden Project. This video is aimed at school children and links into the full Last Chance to Paint project for schools. Discover how John Dyer paints and uses the process of painting to connect to the environment. Introduced by Sam Kendall, the Education Manager at the Eden Project. Sam interviews John Dyer and also Catherine Cutler who is the Biome supervisor and has expert knowledge of the tropical plants. This is a must watch for schools around the world and an amazing introduction to the art of John Dyer, the Eden Project, tropical rainforest, the ecosystem and tribal people of Borneo and the Last Chance to Paint project. Watch with your class and paint along. John uses acrylic paint on canvas and demonstrates his normal painting process to the children. "We are loving the live art lesson from the Eden Project with artist John Dyer. Well done to our Year 6 children who joined in the live art painting class with John Dyer & The Eden Project. It was based on the rainforest and the children loved adding their own touches to their paintings." @Holytrinityrc "This afternoon, we took part in an online art lesson coming from the Eden Project in Cornwall. We painted along with the artist, John Dyer, and created abstract rainforest pictures. Look out for our paintings…coming soon" @BPEFschools

"We are not an endangered species ourselves yet, but this is not for lack of trying."

Douglas Adams. 1952 - 2001
Author of 'Last Chance to See'
Last Chance to See was a 1989 BBC radio documentary series and book. Written and presented by Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy author) and zoologist Mark Carwardine. The project highlighted species on the brink of extinction. Mark Carwardine kindly gave his blessing for Last Chance to Paint to continue this education and inspiration.

YOUR CHILDREN CAN 'TRAVEL' WITH US

By creating a piece of their own art they will really connect to the natural world

DSC00598.jpg

'TRAVEL'

Children and Schools are invited to ‘travel’ with the Eden Project’s artist in residence, John Dyer and musician Martha-Lilly Dyer. We are exploring endangered plants, peoples, places and animals using visual art and music to connect children to these subjects in memorable ways so they become aware of what we stand to lose.

QUESTION

Using the internet and satellite links your children can ask questions before, during and after the expeditions.

CREATE

Art is a universal language that can connect people and creates a reflective space for questioning and learning. We want children to not only ‘travel’ with us but to create their own piece of art inspired by our journeys to be exhibited in the WorldGallery.online alongside John Dyer’s art and art created by indigenous children from around the world.

Small changes by individuals can make a BIG difference to our planet.
How can your children make a positive difference today?

More Plants

Eat locally produced and in season fruits & vegetables. Swap meat for plant based 'meat' & 'dairy' products. Read the ingredients on products like cakes and biscuits and try to avoid products with palm oil in as that fuels rainforest and wildlife devastation and conflict.

Less Fish

Eat locally produced and in season fruits & vegetables. Swap meat for plant based 'meat' & 'dairy' products. Read the ingredients on products like cakes and biscuits and try to avoid products with palm oil in as that fuels rainforest and wildlife devastation and conflict.

Less Meat

Adopt a more plant based diet. The meat industry (& pet food) creates vast amounts of greenhouse gases & causes rainforest deforestation. We can reduce our climate change impact by approximately 18% by removing meat, which is far bigger than removing flights.

Less Stuff

Buy good quality products that last, avoid fast fashion, shop in charity shops. When a family car is purchased try and avoid heavy inefficient SUV vehicles and buy electric if possible. Start to save and invest rather than buying things you might not need.

We can all take action and be the change
There are about 2 billion children on Earth, so it's vital that they are made aware that it's up to them to make changes in behaviours and habits to limit extinctions, biodiversity loss and climate change.
