At the warm Tallships day there are …

People swimming in the bay
seagulls flying around all day

People looking out to sea
people applauding at the view of the deep blue sea

Animals everywhere running about
all in the excitement of no doubt

Cats and Dogs run and play
whilst people are waving flags all the way

The fireworks fizz and pop
whilst children jump and flop

Sailors shouting and doing jigs
up on 30 foot rigs

The boats creak but no one shrieks

The rat scurry in a rush and hurry

Busy towns noise echoes in the shores
The rolling turquoise seas
gives people a tease

So people swim in the bay
through the Tallships day

All the time the seaside accordian
plays the a wistful tune at the end of the day.

‘Tall Ships Couple’ by Will, Age 9 Years

Tall Ships Couple

Paul and Julia were about to get married. The bells were ringing and when they walked in people were flinging confetti everywhere, they walked up to the best man. The best man said a few words and then said you may now kiss. They kissed and loads people were cheering and crying and when the wedding was over Paul paid a lot of money to take Julia on a Tall Ship. They just managed to fit their 12 dogs and 5 cats on the boat. Paul and Julia were so happy; it was a good day for them both.

‘My Story’ by Lily M, Age 11

A soft blue blanket hung limblessly over the star strewn sky. The moon staring down on Falmouth, winking occasionally to the scattered people way down below. The brightly blue sky and sea reflect the smiling moon’s face. Boats litter the tranquil sea as the lingering people wait upon the boats. The squawking seagulls scan the grounds for a late night snack. People dawdling through the coloured town. The bright colours burst to life. Sweet smells of freshly baked pasties coming from Rowes’ as people walk past the shop. Dogs barking excitedly, waiting for something to happen.
Suddenly the Tall Ships swarm into the sheltering harbour, a loud cheer comes from the crowd, dogs barking enthralled as the ships come closer. The intense colours of bunting hung across the ships as they stood tall over Falmouth. Startlingly, the fireworks erupted with colour and noise. It flared up the night sky. It was soon over though. Many people stayed a while after, others went home for an early night. Laughter and chatter filled the streets once more. The subject stayed long after the Tall Ships had arrived.

‘Emily’ by Annabelle, Age 9 Years

Emily
The water was rough and there were tonnes of fish swimming around the boat. I could hear the waves crashing against the shore, and my whiskers were tingling. Everyone on the deck was having a party when I was locked down because they thought I would be scared of the spiralling fireworks or the crashing waves but finally the meowing was wearing off, and master came down and let me up to the deck. I could taste the mackerel and fish from the stools on land. I couldn’t help going to the side of the ship and watch the silver sparkling scales of fish, almost falling off into the deep blue water. We were about to set off and go to the deeper scarier part of the ocean only because master and his mates were getting drunk.
Finally when we set off, I got a nice bowl of milk full to the brim whilst the ship set sail. After a while I felt like having a long snooze down below and a nice big tuna and that was exactly what I didn’t get, not only no tuna but everywhere we went was tough and a strong wind blew through my fur when I went above. Masters brand new sailor’s cap blew off in the wind and was lost, we suddenly came to a cave and sailed straight in without another thought. It was dark and gloomy with only the lights below to guide us through the water. There were rockety rocks scattered below the water, there was a sharp and pointed one right in view and we were about to sail over it I began to meow and meow as loud as I possibly could until Jake one of master’s crew realised something was wrong and came over to find out.
“What’s wrong Emily why all the meowing what’s happened?” Jake said in a whisper.
“MEOW” was all I could answer then suddenly master saw the rock and tried to curve around but the boat only got trapped on the side and we were stuck. There was a scary shape in the water with fins and teeth; yep you guessed, it was a shark. Every one huddled together as they prayed to get free, then when night fell and there stood a beautiful, full moon the water was beginning to get higher, until we all thought this was the end and the last place we would ever see. It was as if the boat went click and we were free, we slowly began to move and started to sail away out of the cave and towards where we thought was home. But there was no sign of land and no sign of any thing we recognised, only the dark blue water that drifted slowly under the tall ships sails and hull. We drifted quietly along the ocean until the water changed colour into a light turquoise. There were thatched huts all along the bay and dogs running over the beach, as soon as I saw the dogs and puppies I felt sick and began to back away, Master and the crew knew exactly where we were. We stayed here for a couple of days but when the dark came it was horrible. There were dogs howling, so we went back home, knowing where to go and arrived safely back and I had another bowl of milk and some salmon.

‘A Firework’s Flight’ by Amy Trethewey, Age 10 Years

In a dark, cold box, I was lying alone. I felt scared and lonely. I didn’t know what to do. The box was all rusty and oily. I didn’t like it at all.
Suddenly, I was moving around the box. It felt like someone was carrying me. I was rolling all around the box like a ball going crazy.
Slowly someone grabbed me and pulled me out of the box and dumped me on the grass with all the other fireworks. They then connected me to all of the other fireworks. The man left me alone with all of the fireworks. I was scared. He said to a man ,
“I am going to get the matches” Quickly, the man rushed back with a lighter and a match. Would you like to be set off by a match?
Suddenly the man got closer and closer and closer. He set me off with a BANG!! I didn’t know what was going on, but down below I saw a lovely, white Tall Ship. The people were staring at me. The sea was a sapphire crystal shining below me. I could see massive houses, all different colours (pink, blue, orange, yellow…). There were hundreds of dogs and cats everywhere I looked. The sight before my eyes was amazing.
I got closer and closer to the ground. I ended up becoming dust. Lots of tiny grains of dust. Suddenly my life flashed before my eyes as I landed on the ground. I was not a firework anymore, just dust.

‘A Firework’s Flight’ by Olivia Deevought-Johnson, Age 10 Years

Quietly I sat (at around 5:10pm) in a big, dry and old big box with five others, however the other fireworks were fast asleep, so it was just me. I smelt damp in the small box. I was waiting for it to happen because I had friends that told me about it, I waited and waited until…

I heard a shuffle-I felt it too. I saw a glimpse of light as a pair of hands slowly opened the box. Suddenly a face looked at me; it was a man, so I looked away. “Get it out of the box, we are starting!” Said the man. The younger boy said cheekily “why don’t you do it?” the older man shot him a glance.

Next I was put on the floor carefully, I was cold but I tried to close my eyes and go to sleep so I wouldn’t know a thing. Scared, I looked around and saw my friends who were now awake. I waved and they waved back.

Suddenly a rope was attached to me as I was nearly asleep. I saw my friends shoot up in the air like a rocket. I jumped millimeters. I felt as controlled as a dog on a lead going for a walk.

Someone lit the rope, I smelt burned rope. I heard people chatting in the audience. They started to count down…10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1…!

I shot up into the air and saw a tall ship called Topaz. Two seals going Arg! Arg! Arg! I saw dogs, birds, cats. People in the water waved at me. A spiky cactus in the distance. Slowly I fell down.

‘A Firework’s Flight’ by Freddie Murley, Age 10 Years

I was in the cardboard box, it was about 5 pm. I got taken out of the box.The ground was like a muddy puddle. I got the long red wire attached to me…on the end of it was dynamite!

I was scared like a human.

He got a match and lit the end of the wire. It was coming to me. It got to the last piece of the wire and up I went whirling up into the air. It was going until….
Suddenly I went BANG! I exploded, the noise of the firework was great. I was looking down at the crystal blue sea as I looked down I saw the tall ships arrive into Falmouth harbour.
I could see the people having fun in the streets celebrating the Tall Ships coming into Falmouth. I could see the dogs and cats lying next to the trees.

The dust was falling from me.

‘Tall Ships Galore’ by Wilamena, Age 7 Years

Tall ships galore in the port of Falmouth,
people climbing up and up
the salty rigging,
hanging from the sails.
And cheering people standing at the quay,
waving flags as the soft breeze blows in their faces.

Purple boats that are the Tall ships,
sprays the boat with salty water.

Just as the clock strikes 12 the fireworks explode,
the accordion player starts to join in,
the vibration of the accordion I’ve never seen that before.
I think the Accordion just gives it that one bit more.
It wakes the cats the dogs and birds,
sniffing and looking for left over crumbs,
pasties, sandwiches what ever is around.

Little children wondering,
thinking what it must be like,
standing on the masts singing songs
and where will the wind take them ?
What will it bring?
