‘A Firework’s Flight’ by Keira Johns, Age 10 Years

I’m in the corner of a dark and dingy box with twelve other fireworks squashing me, it was terrifying, I could hardly breathe I wanted to get out but I knew I couldn’t do anything about it!
Suddenly I felt someone shake the box, and then put me down again, I didn’t know what was going to happen to me and all I know is that I am not in Tesco anymore, and I know that for a fact.
As quick lightning the box lid opened (air at last) I felt free for the first time ever, I could feel the moisture of the air around, moving me, I could hear the horns from the ships and I could see the tall ships coming in from a corner of the box.
The next thing I knew I was set up on the grass (the grass was as cold as ice) into the pot, and connected to the others…and then the plug.
Once we were connected to the ground and the other plugs I had to wait another hour until I was set off. I mean how would you feel if you had to be shoved next to twelve other fireworks?
All I could hear is a man shouting 3,2,1 BLAST OFF , so off I shot into the air like a bullet from a gun…
BANG POP WHIZ! I went as I shot up into the air, it feels so amazing, I finally feel happy.
I could see the shimmering sea from up above, and I could see the Tall Ships coming through, I could nearly touch the ships they were so tall. I feel free for the first time in forever, I could see the colours everywhere.

‘A Firework’s Flight’ by Megan Crossland, Age 10 Years

I woke up with a start. I’m in a dusty wooden box. I try to wake my friends but they’re too busy sleeping. I’m alone in the dusty, dirty box. I try to get to sleep but my firework friends are too busy snoring. I yawn, dust blows every where. I make an amazingly noisy sneeze.
“A,a,a,a,a,tchoooooooooo!” I sneeze.
Everyone wakes up.
“Hu!” they all cry.
“What’s that racket?” One says.
“Sorry it was me. I sneezed.”
Then everyone went to sleep.

Suddenly, I felt like I am getting tickled. But someone is carrying me. I rub my eyes, who is this mysterious person? Suddenly, I feel this big tapping. I’m getting wet, it’s raining.

Eventually, I get put in a long metal tube. I’m getting cold and wet. Then I see my friends all around me looking worried. These two men put some dynamite cord from me to their car. They pull out a flame. I try to run but my tail is too far in the ground. I see the spark come closer and closer. Then I start to glow green and BANG! I shoot up into the sky. I can see the tall boats under me as I am racing higher and higher. The fireworks are lots and lots of different colours. Why does this sting and tingle sooo much? I can smell different people’s hot dogs. However, I hear a cracking shriek, David has faded away. Next it was my turn…

‘A Firework’s Flight’ by Ruby Prowse, Age 11Years

As I’m in my dusty, gloomy Firework crate, all I can hear is the eager crowd, waiting to hear and see the Firework display. Suddenly I hear a thumping noise of the manager’s footsteps, heading towards my Firework crate.
Out of the blue, the manager lifts the lid from the crate and picks me up, like a mother cradling her child and did the same to a few of my friends. WOW!!! I’ve never seen anything like it before, the whole town was filled with people, and flags were everywhere!
Then they set me up ready to BLAST in to the sky like a boom, all of my friends were set up ready to go as well, the manager grabbed the matches and lit me up and the same happened to my friends like it always does.
Surprisingly the heaving crowd started to do a count down,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0 BLAST OFF! Screamed the crowd like a crying baby.
I was above the dead still houses, calm blue crystal sea and then above the craziest, the most colourful and cheerful town. However, I’m only here to celebrate the giant floating Tall Ships, suddenly I felt a teardrop scuttle down my coned face, as that tear creeps to the bottom of me I fade away…

‘A Firework’s Flight’ by Ellie Gorfin, Age 10 Years

I’m in a wooden box, it is pitch black, I’ve only got a small space to move. I feel like I’m a crisp in a crisp packet. I’m all scrunched up and can hardly move. I’m bouncing up and down as the truck is moving. I am woken up by light, it is like am I going into a new world. Quickly, one by one, me and all of the other fireworks are getting pulled out.
The sun is getting pulled down in the sky and behind the cliff, it is like it is hiding! All of a sudden the stars are running across the sky and spreading them selves like jam on toast. An hour later I’m placed on the grass so gently like I’m a fragile piece of glass.
Suddenly I hear scratching (what’s happening?) “Help me” I whimpered to myself all I could see was a flash of light, is it lightening? I can feel heat on my toes, slowly the flame is crawling up the rope getting me ready to be shot into the sky as fast as a bullet! Seconds later…
As gracefully as a ballet dancer I’m in the beautiful bright blue sky. Below me I can see the crystal sea sparkling, and the tall ships rocking like a rocking chair! I can hear the group of excited people cheering as we are in the sky, the seals dancing in the waves. I can hear the clock ticking every second, the dog howling like a horn. The last thing I can hear is a person playing the accordion!
Then slowly I fade away like a piece of dust being blown and never to be seen again.

Tall Ships and Small Ships

One night, Joe and Manny (the dog) were fast asleep. Suddenly they woke up to the sound of loud bangs. Joe ran downstairs to see what the noise was, then came Manny scrambling his way behind him. Joe went into the kitchen to get a cup of tea while Manny lay down on the soft turquoise carpet. When Joe came back, Manny was stood at the door barking furiously. Joe thought he just wanted a walk so he took him down to the harbour.
When Joe and Manny got down to the harbour, Joe tied Manny up and then he strode into the shop and bought a bone for Manny.
When he came out, Manny was gone. ‘He must have got scared by something.’ thought Joe. He was so worried at that point. Suddenly a big bang vibrated in his ears. He immediately looked up to where the sound was coming from…nothing was there. He heard it again… nothing there. He kept an eye on the navy blue sky this time. Bang! He saw an ocean blue swirl, shoot into the air. It was a firework. Suddenly a white sheet shifted into his sight, it made sense now.
A little while later, he saw Manny run across the road. He called his name and waved Manny’s bone in the air. Manny then came plodding along back to Joe, he was so happy. Then there were cheering noises, they understood exactly why. It all made sense now, the white sheet was a sail. It was the tall ships arriving. They saw more and more fireworks shooting into the air now. The sea shimmered in the moon light, making a bright light.
After a busy night, Manny got into his dog bed and Joe got into his bed. Just then ,the alarm clock buzzed. Time to get up!
