‘My Poem’ by My Molly Aged 11

The velvet curtain of midnight-
Blue sky, embedded with glittering diamonds
Shining in the faint orange glow of the street lights,
Is slowly drawn across the brightly-coloured sunset.
Eruptions of colour splatter my amazing view with ear-bursting fireworks.
They shoot into the air,
Exploding into little volcanoes brimming with sparkling jewels,
Before spilling with multi-coloured lava
That floats slowly to the ground.
I see people gathered in the streets
Buzzing with the excitement of the arrival of the tall ships,
Gasping with awe
As fountains of colour
Paint the sky
With happiness
And the promise
Of more to come.

‘Sunset Ships’ by Archie Waterfield, Aged 11

Soon the ships will be here.
Under the stars they’ll float on by.
Nearly here they’re on the horizon.
Sunset “ahh” the ships are here.
Early this year.
Tall ships this time.
Seven in a group.
Hurray!!! They all cheer.
I watch with glee.
Parrots on all the shoulders of the men.
Sunsets over the boats are leaving, the night is over.
