Shop for Theatre will be working with professional actors to act out the top children’s pieces of writing during the Tall Ships Regatta in the shops and streets of Falmouth. The top pieces of writing will be selected for this process.
‘Shop for Theatre’ is an idea to bring performances of new writing into small and intimate spaces. In Dec 2011 they performed in shops across Falmouth ranging from Marks and Spencers to Just Like This. The following year they were bringing writing to the Fal-River Festival appearing in cars on the King Harry Ferry and on St Mawes Harbor. They appointed a Festival writer in residence, Paul Farmer, who is also one of the professionals involved with The Tall Ships Project. ‘Shop for Theatre’ will take the large body of work that it has already created and add to it the writing that will be created by the project to celebrate The Tall Ships in Falmouth. This means that some children’s stories will be heard in shops throughout the town. It is hoped that the project’s partnership with Falmouth University will mean that some Performance students will be working alongside the professional actors.
