‘Tom’s Treasure’ by Alex, Age 11Years

Tom’s Treasure

The past is brought to the future; where even dogs and cats sing in harmony; where the lighthouse is a small light; this is a Cornish sea-side celebration. You would not get such a big crowd in the football world cup final in Brazil! Even the local chippy staff were dancing to the squeeze-box. The impetuous drunken sailors were dangling effortlessly on the sturdy masts. They sang shanties and traditional songs.
Amongst all the hustle and bustle a small boy cycled hastily with many a “Sorry!” and, ”Excuse me” as he peddled through the bustling and disorganised crowd. He was smashing vases, shattering plant pots. Everywhere his unintentional rampage went, it left a trail of “Watch where you`re going!” and “You fool!” The cause of the slight problem was that the boy (Tom) had lost his cat, or almost had. Tom peddled harder, keeping a fixed eye on Fluffy`s back legs.
Then, to Tom`s agonizing disappointment, the cat darted into a pub. ‘The Dead Pirate’ is what Tom read on the pub sign. A fiercesome skull and cross bones towered menacingly on the creaking door. Tom imagined lightning striking in front of it. I say imagined because it was actually fine weather. He had got into trouble in there before. Tom gulped and ventured in. The sound of drunken laughter filled Tom`s quaking ears. He crouched down among the forest of legs, searching desperately for a glimpse of Fluffy. Eventually, he gave up and and cowered into a dark corner, where no one could be bothered by him. But he could not help over hearing an interesting conversation. “Did you bring the money?” asked a gruff but muffled voice. “Of course.” replied a scared other. It sounded as if the first voice was a master of the second.
“It is in the b-boat m-master, the b-biggest one m-master.” Tom needed no further explanation. Fluffy was banished from his mind. He rushed from the inn and gathered some bags to collect the money. What Tom deduced was that the gruff- voiced man was smuggling stolen gold from some rich country!

‘The Great Regatta’ by Katie, age 11

The Great Regatta

Whilst the bell tower struck,
People danced joyfully,
The children could not believe their luck,
As fireworks crashed and burst noisily,
People rushing to see leaving footprints in the muck.

The boats sailed in one by one,
As sailors hurried up the mast,
Eagerly waiting to join in the fun,
The regatta had finally begun at last.

‘The Celebration’ by James, age 9

The Celebration

It’s the celebration for the nation
When the fireworks shine so bright in the middle of the night,
The people at the top of the town have such a wonderful sight.
The boats have an amazing height
And some of the boats are so tight, who is going to win?
Who is going to come first? Come on!
The finish line is just some yards to come.
The people were shouting and counting boats
To see if you have won.
The people were panting and sailing on.
The boats were still, were still going on.
The people were singing and dancing to cheer them on,
The race will soon be gone.

‘Tall Ship Rally’ by Olivia, age 8

TALL SHIP RALLY

Down by the sea where the moon light be,
Fishermen sail across the big blue sea,
The fireworks explode in the dark night sky,
Which sometimes make the babies cry,
Everybody starts dancing to get the big party started.

The white horses gallop and neigh,
To the songs that wonderful day,
Lifeboats and yachts sail across the large ocean,
Watching the fireworks light up the sky,
The tall ships slowly follow,
Watching the fireworks explode again and again,
All the different colours filling the street,
What a special treat.

‘The Banjo’ by Harvey, St Dominic School, age 7

The Banjo

All the people were all excited,
The lovely sound of the banjo,
And the dancing trees,
And the ships on the deep blue sea,
As the fireworks went bang,
The people sang,
Until midnight.

‘Chaos by the Harbour’, Jacob, St Dominic School, age 8

Chaos by the Harbour

Roaring crowds racing about,
Eating fish and chips sitting on the bench,
Giant boats coming in to the harbour,
As fireworks light up the city,
The bell tower struck ten,
Then the sky turned dark blue,
And people danced all night long.

“A Dog at the Regatta” by Megan, age 11years

A Dog at the Regatta

A dog was at the regatta,
He found a bog and got covered in mud,
Although that didn’t matter,
He smelt the sausage rolls at the regatta,
Then he ate them all and became fatter,
The man that sold the sausage rolls got cross,
So he threw a ball of moss,
It hit him on the head,
He ran home to lay on his bed…………
but how those Fireworks boomed, How the crowds cheered,
He got no sleep that night!

‘City Fun’ by Freyja, Age 8

CITY FUN!!!!!!
Raging ships crashing through the battered gates,
Illuminating fireworks lighting up the night sky,
Pink, purple, yellow, orange and blue,
Grumpy people missing out on all the fun,
At the harbour boats rushing out,
The bright blue sea full of creatures,
Take part in the fun,
A band performing lively fun songs.
