‘The Maiden Voyage’ by Zeno, Age 8 Years

THE MAIDEN VOYAGE AND THE GIANT SHARK

Once upon a time there lived two men; these men were named Bob and Dave. They were ordinary people; they lived on an ordinary lane. On some afternoons Dave would read his book ‘Game of Thrones’ whilst Bob was sailing on their sailing boat ‘The Blue Voyage’. When Bob got back in the evenings they had barbecues and on Sundays they had the most magnificent Sunday roasts.

One day changed their LIVES! On the day they were asked to go on a voyage on a TALL SHIP! They screamed “Yes! I want to!” simultaneously and jumped on board. Later that day they were sailing, finally. Suddenly they hit something! They didn’t know what though. The captain was rushing about the tall ship named ‘The Maiden Voyage’.

“Are you sure about this Dave?” Bob shuddered. Dave replied “Yes, the boat is sailing fine. Oh and by the way, I’m going onto the deck to see the sea.”
Just then one of the crew came to tell them that the boat had indeed hit something but they still did not know what. The crewman sounded scared.
An hour later the crewman came back with some more information. He said, “We launched two scuba divers. Here’s the radio that they talk through…”
“Oh no! Aargh!” the scuba diver said, through the radio. The crew watched the action on the scuba diver’s camera.
“That looks painful!” cried Bob.
“That does look painful!” added Dave.
“Oh NO! What am I going to tell the captain?” yelled the crewman, “that was his brother that just got gobbled up by that shark!” He started to cry.

The captain rushed in and said, “We are sinking!”
Bob and Dave’s mouths fell open. Soon the boat was vertical and started going down! Bob, Dave, the crewman, the captain and all the others survived. The captain was weeping: his boat nothing but a pile of scrap.

They had a nice journey home and the captain and the crewman lived with Bob and Dave, and from now on if they are asked on a Tall Ship they say NO!

‘The Lifeboat’ by Samuel Age 8 Years

One sunny morning in Falmouth harbour the lifeboat men set off to patrol the area because the tall ships were coming.

An hour later a boat launched off and went to Land’s End. It was very rough with spray going everywhere. Suddenly the boat capsized with a splash!
“Help!” shouted a crew member.

Meanwhile on the lifeboat the satnav picked up the signal and they zoomed off. Fifteen minutes later the lifeboat arrived where the boat had capsized. All the men pulled the crew out of the water. Most of them were wet so the lifeboat men dried them off. When they were dry they set off.

Twenty minutes later they had arrived back at the harbour. It looked very full because the tall ships had arrived. Then the lifeboat moored up alongside the pier and dropped the sailors off. After that they patrolled the harbour again.

‘Lou Lou and the Missing Cat’ by Emily Age 8 Years

One day there was a girl named Lou Lou. She was 22, a very nice, sweet girl with blonde hair. She wore a pretty yellow dress with red buttons. Lou Lou worked night and day, all day, every day as an actor. Lou Lou’s travelling theatre company were in Falmouth for the Tall Ships.
It was hard for Lou Lou because she had no family, just a cat named Lilly. Lilly, now she was Lou Lou’s pet cat that she had had since she was 17, so not that long ago.
One evening Lilly decided to explore. She walked out of the travelling theatre and out onto the boats.
The next morning Lou Lou woke to a giant shock! “Lilly’s missing!” shouted Lou Lou. Everyone came rushing because they knew how much Lilly meant to Lou Lou, but they just didn’t know what to do.
Meanwhile Lilly was having a little bit of a shock of her own. She was on one of the tall ships for the celebration. (This cat loves water, just to let you know: It all started when she was younger and still at the pet shop. Now, because Lilly was at the pet shop there were lots of fish, so one day the pet shop owner, Mr Bands, let Lilly out of her cage, so she climbed way up high on the shelves above the fish tanks and she fell in, but she found it really nice! Anyway, back to the story.) Lilly had found herself locked away after the captain had found her on deck. She tried to escape but it was no use.
Back at the theatre they sent out a search party. They all knew what she looked like. Everyone searched high and low but they couldn’t find her anywhere. Suddenly, Lou Lou had a brilliant bright idea. It was a tremendous idea, a fabulous idea, even though she was pretty much out of hope.
Back on the ship Lilly was waiting very impatiently when all of a sudden one of the crew members let Lilly free from her cabin (because the captain, Jack, had told him to). Jack had grown fond of Lilly (she had been missing for four days) and had decided to adopt her.
Lou Lou knew Lilly loved the water so she looked out to sea. Eventually she spotted Lilly on a tall ship. She swam out to sea, jumped onto the tall ship and picked Lilly up. Just then she saw the captain, Jack, and had a good idea. Lou Lou asked the captain if the theatre group could move on to the boat and he said YES!
And now, when the tall ships come, you can see a play on the tall ships.

‘The Great Rescue!’ by Amelia, Age 8 Years

The Great Rescue!
Once there was a girl called Scarlet. She couldn’t swim but she loved fish and chips, music, colours and she was eleven.
One day Scarlet and her mum were at home getting ready because they had heard that the tall ships were in town.
After a while they walked down to the harbour. The harbour was colourful and very busy. They walked to the fish and chip shop (which was very busy too). After that they took a walk on the pier.
Suddenly, Scarlet lost her mum and fell into the sea and as you know she can’t swim! She sank down to the bottom of the ocean.
After a while the RNLI rescued Scarlet.
“Are you OK?” shouted Jack, a crew member.
“Yes,” replied Scarlet, “Well I think I swallowed some water…Blaaahh!”
“Let’s get you warmed up,” said Jack.
Scarlet followed Jack down and Jack grabbed a towel and introduced everyone.
Suddenly there was a call for an emergency! The RNLI crew forgot that Scarlet was still on the boat and the emergency was in Devon!

Meanwhile, in town Scarlet’s mum was worried. She told everyone that she couldn’t find her daughter and she even put up posters. It was 7 o’clock in the evening.
“It’s nearly her bed-time,” said Scarlet’s mum worriedly, “Where can she be?”

Just then, on the boat they were getting ready to go off. It went so fast that Scarlet fell off the boat! Luckily she was wearing a life-jacket and so she could swim back to shore.
In the end she found her mum and they had an ice cream and a party.
After the party they watched the Tall Ships and a little carnival, and from then on, Scarlet was always careful.

‘Tall Ships’ by Amelie, Age 8 Years

Tall Ships gather round,
A brilliant time it is,
Look around the corner a lovely view,
Lovely scent of salty sea water,
Singing and dancing all around,
Hurry! The tall ships are racing,
I love it this year – the tall ships are amazing,
Please be over soon I’m very tired,
Sleep time for me: a lovely day it’s been.

‘Tall Ships’ by Bella, Age 8 Years

The sailing tall ships come into Falmouth,
All the people are amazed,
Look around for their might be something to be found,
Look up, hoist the sails!
Smell pasties, warm in the stove,
Hear people laugh and cheer!
It’s really amazing that tall ships are here,
People play Cornish music,
See the dazzling fireworks end the day with a flash!

Telegraphers telegraphing their favourite ships,
All the active sailors on massive boats,
Ladies wearing glossy make up,
Lollipops being licked,
Seal fins are clapping like mad,
Hurry, hurry you should see this,
Imaginative fireworks popping wildly,
Particular people chattering deep into the night,
Sea rustling you can faintly hear it in the distance but it will never end.
